Merck Announces a New Covid Pill

The pharmaceutical company Merck announced it would soon seek emergency use authorization for its new pill, molnupiravir, to treat Covid-19. In studies conducted on people who recently contracted the virus, the experimental drug cut hospitalizations and deaths in half. The pill must be taken within five days of the appearance of symptoms, and it did not appear to help those who are already severely ill.
