U.S. Drug Overdoses Rose Sharply Last Year
By Radiant Health EditorsPublished: November 21, 2021
The Covid-19 pandemic undoubtedly increased the number of Americans that died from overdoses. Provisional CDC data estimate that a record high of about 100,300 people died as a result of a drug overdose between April 2020 and April 2021. That’s an almost 30% increase year-on-year. The vast majority of those deaths involved the drug fentanyl. The Drug Enforcement Administration (DEA) said that so far in 2021, it has taken more than 12,000 pounds of fentanyl off the streets.
