Substance Users in NYC Have Two Safe Spaces to Inject Themselves

There are now two supervised injection sites in NYC. The new centers in East Harlem and Washington Heights were already functioning as needle exchange sites, but they were turned into OnPoint facilities to decrease the number of overdose deaths that occur in the city. Users bring their own drugs to the sites, and they are given clean needles to inject themselves. Trained staff members are prepared to administer naloxone in the case of an overdose, and everyone who enters is given information on addiction treatment.
