The Biden administration announced that private insurance companies will need to offer two options to customers for acquiring eight coronavirus tests per month per member. Insurance companies will reimburse customers if they choose to pay for the tests out-of-pocket and file a subsequent claim. No-cost tests will also be made available at the insurer’s preferred pharmacies and other chosen retailers. This new law will affect about 45% of Americans who are privately insured. Critics point to the low supply of tests across the country and say the plan is not feasible.
