Teenagers’ Mental Health Plummeted During Lockdowns

High school students across the country reported in a survey that they experienced high levels of emotional distress and depression while locked down during the pandemic. More than half of the 7,705 respondents also reported experiencing emotional abuse at the hands of an adult in their home. 9% of the kids admitted that they had attempted suicide, while 11% said they were physically abused. Lockdowns and extended periods of remote learning were very difficult for many at-risk children. The loss of their community of peers had devastating effects on some youth.
