Polio Virus Found in London Sewage

Health officials in the U.K. have discovered an outbreak of polio in London. Scientists have not actually located any individual with the virus. Instead, they found its remnants in the city’s sewage. Most of the population is vaccinated against polio, so few are at risk of infection. However, those that have chosen to forego the childhood vaccine should contact their doctor about getting vaccinated right away. Polio spreads when a person accidentally consumes human waste that is infected with the virus. The virus can cause unvaccinated people to be permanently paralzyed.
