WNBA Star Brittney Griner Will Be Held in Russia Until May 19th

Brittney Griner, a WNBA player for the Phoenix Mercury, was detained in Russia on drug charges several weeks ago. Griner plays for a Russian basketball team in the winter during her off-season. The foreign government claimed that Griner was carrying vape cartridges with hashish oil in her bags at a Moscow airport. Under Russian law, transporting drugs is punishable with five to ten years in prison. Russian state media recently reported that Griner will remain in custody until May 19th.
